Pekanbaru prepares Rp 1 billion to overcome haze

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU -- The government of Pekanbaru, Riau Province, were ready to prepare Rp 1 billion from 2015 budget to overcome smoke, that had been planned by the Riau provincial government.

"Decree of the Mayor regarding emergency status of smoke has been signed," said Head of Disaster Management Agency and Firefighters, Pekanbaru, Burhan Gurning, in Pekanbaru, Tuesday (15/9).

Gurning explained after referring to instruction of Governor of Riau on emergency status of the condition of air quality, Pekanbaru Mayor issued a decree, as technical instructions of smoke reduction at the city.

"The indicators of emergency status of smoke in Pekanbaru were Air Pollution Standards Index (ISPU) that was already above 300. Data of Pekanbaru Environment Agency, on Monday, showed that the PM10 also has reached 1000," he explained.

Another indicators was drought, limit of rainfall and so on. So that several schools were closed in nearly three weeks due to exposure of smoke. Hence, the city government has prepared all the technical and administrative guidance, so that the funds that have been reserved in the budget, can be used immediately.
