Mount Lokon and Karangetang in alert status

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANADO -- Mount Lokon in Tomohon and Mount Karangetang in Sitaro Islands, North Sulawesi, were in alert status level III.

"Previously, there were three mountains that still were on alert, but recently Mount Soputan's status in Southeast Minahasa has been lowered to level two," said Head of Operations Control Center, Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Christian Laotongan, in Manado, Monday (14/9).

Laotongan said Mount Lokon in late August 2015 was erupted and flashed a material of volcanic ash as high as 1,500 meters, which fell to Tinoor area of Tomohon and some places Manado, Minahasa and North Minahasa. After the eruption, there were still volcanic earthquakes.

Meanwhile, volcanic activity of Mount Karangetang was still volatile, with glide lava from the crater which flowed to a number of rivers.

"Residents, are hoped to still obey the radius of danger that had recommended by the center of volcanology and geological hazard mitigation to avoid casualties when the eruption occurred," he said.
