Five reservoir projects approved

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TULUNGAGUNG -- Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, Basuki Hadimuldjono, ensured contracts for five new reservoir construction projects will be signed by the government, by the end of September

"During 2015, we target 13 new reservoirs. This month, all the contract will be signed," said Basuki, when reviewing Wonorejo Reservoir, in Tulungagung, East Java, Sunday (13/9).

Of 13 reservoirs, eight reservoirs were already under construction. While the remaining five new reservoirs were still on draft. The signing of the contracts was scheduled to be conducted before the end of September, following the deregulation package issued by the government.

According to Basuki, the construction of 13 reservoirs were part of the government's plan to build 49 reservoirs or dams nationwide for a period of five years. The reservoirs were for the benefit of agricultural irrigation, hydropower, drinking water, and flood prevention.

Seven new reservoirs that will begin its construction were in East Java, namely Tugu, Tukul, Bajulmati, Nipah, Gonseng, and Bendo reservoir.

"Next year, there will be additional of eight reservoirs again, until it reaches the target of 49 reservoirs for the next five years," he added.

He admitted that there were still a number of obstacles related to the implementation of the development process in the field, particularly regarding exchange-rolling of forest land. Basuki ensured the obstacles related to regulatory constraints will be resolved by the government.

"With the first phase of deregulation package issued by the government this September, construction of infrastructure of the roads, housing, dams, bridges, irrigation in the forest area are no longer need to exchange, but borrow and use it," he explained.
