REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Chief Budi Waseso has asserted that the law enforcement officials must be aggressive in efforts to combat drugs in Indonesia.
"We must be proactive and work together on a massive scale to eradicate drugs from the root," said Waseso at the Jakarta Police Headquarters on Wednesday.
The three-star general explained that the BNN officials should also actively cooperate with the Police, Military, and Customs officials to combat drug trafficking in Indonesia.
Waseso said the BNN has encouraged cooperation wit the TNI to tighten oversight of the waters in Indonesia which is often used as drug smuggling paths.
The BNN chief pointed out that the TNI and water police have the authority to supervise illegal boats, while the police block the drug traffickers on the land.
He noted that if necessary, the offenders of drug smuggling by sea are drowned along with their boat.
"If necessary, drown the boat along with the drug smugglers," he remarked.
Waseso said he would evaluate the handling and eradication of drugs to anticipate the circulation of illicit goods.
He also underlined the need to improve the supervision against the correctional institution officials who were often involved in drug control.
