Indonesian share price index close higher on Tuesday

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Share price index of the Indonesian stock exchange closed 64.77 points or 1.56 percent higher at 4,228.5 points on Tuesday.

The index rebound after a sharp fall earlier with index of 45 most liquid stock up 2.32 percent to 708.26 points.

HD Capital's analyst Yuganur Wijanarko said market players bought back shares after condition of being oversold.

The trade on Tuesday recorded 320,615 transactions with 4.64 billion shares valued at Rp5.37 trillion changing hands.

Gainers outnumbered decliners by 166 to 155 shares with 70 shares remaining flat.

Meanwhile the national currency rupiah close stronger trading at the level of 14,024 per U.S. dollar gaining from earlier level of 14,049 per dollar.

PT Platon Niaga Berjangka's analyst Lukman Leong attributed the rupiah rise partly to Bank Indonesia buying back state securities at secondary market.
