REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG -- A deputy at the office of the state minister for state enterprises said state owned companies are generally ready to face implementation of the Asean Economic Community (AEC).

Implementation of the free trade area of AEC by the end of 2015 would sharpen competition in the regional market.

"State companies which are run professionally have been prepared to meet competition in the regional market after the implementation of AEC," deputy for business infrastructure at the ministry Wahyu Kuncoro said.

Hundreds of state companies spread in 34 provinces have been focused on infrastructure development," Wahyu said here celebrating the 70th anniversary of the country's independence with a number of state company leaders on Monday.

State companies also have been prepared with improved good corporate governance (GCG), through training to improve the quality of human resources and mastery of the latest technology, he said.

He said the momentum of the commemoration of the national day is expected to give new spirit to achieve greater progress.

AEC should not be described as a threat to the national business. On the contrary it would serve as a challenge to launch market expansion in the region, he said.

He said amid unfavorable condition of the country's economy and global crisis, state companies still perform well and "remain on the right track."

The target for state revenues in dividend from state enterprises is set at Rp37 trillion in 2015 or higher than the previous year's target of Rp31 trillion.
