REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chen Long from China emerged as the world badminton champion title here on Sunday after beating Lee Chong Wei from Malaysia 21-14, 21-17 in 65 minutes.

This was Chen Long's second victory over Chong Wei after he overpowered the Malaysian player in the final round of the world championship last year.

"I am glad I won this men's single event. The victory is not only for me but also the Chinese team," he said after the match.

He said he had been determined to be himself and would not be influenced by any pressure before meeting Lee Chong Wei in the final round.

"As I am younger than Chong Wei I became the challenger. It is okay," he said.

Chen Long who is ranked first in the world said spectators at Istora Senayan, the venue of the tournament, had always supported the opponents when the Chinese players played but "they are extraordinary. They know badminton. It is interesting for me and I am always glad with them."

The 26-year old left-handed player said his position was difficult because he had been put below top players such as Chong Wei and Lin Dan but above potential young players such as Viktor Axelsen, Kento Momota and even Jan O Jorgensen.

Regarding his plan after the championship he said he would take a rest for three or four days or even two weeks first before starting his next activities.
