REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo installed Rano Karno as Governor of Banten for the remaining period of 2012-2017, on Wednesday (12/8). Rano replaced Ratu Atut Chosiyah who is now indicted in bribery case.
Rano, who was popular through his role in sinetron ‘Si Doel Anak Sekolahan’, was appointed as governor by Presidential Decree No. 78 P of 2015. The decree also stated that Rano was honorable discharged from his former position as Vice Governor of Banten.
Rano’s political career in government began when he was elected as Vice Governor of Banten, accompanied Ratu Atut Chosiyah in 2012. However, in the middle of her reign, Ratu Atut was named as suspect in bribery case by Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
After that, Rano automatically replaced Ratu Atut as Governor of Banten. Rano said that the development of Banten now focuses on the problem of drought.
