REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- Susi Susanti and Taufik Hidayat was asked to become ambassadors for the National Sports Week (PON) XIX/2016 in West Java. The two former badminton world champions were selected to promote PON 2016 with other athletes.

According to the Chief Executive I PB PON 2016, Ahmad Hadadi, Susi and Taufik  become ambassadors because they were outstanding world athletes from West Java. Their names and popularity were also no doubt in national and international level.

With several athletes, Hadadi added, Susi and Taufik are expected to promote the PON 2016 to all Indonesian people.

“PON selected them as ambassadors. They were athletes from West Java who have world-level achievement,” he said.

Susi and Taufik came to the Chef de Mission meeting, at Jalan Merdeka, Bandung, Thursday (30/7). The event was attended by the representatives of all the province contingents.

Besides that, the Chairman of PB PON XIX/2016 West Java, Ahmad Heryawan, and the Chairman of KONI, Suratman, also came. The meeting is the beginning of the series of PON XIX/2016 in West Java.

Heryawan said that the meeting was conducted to confirm the participation of PON contingents from all provinces in Indonesia. From the meeting, we know that the number of athletes who will compete in PON are about eight thousands and the number of officials are about seven thousands.

By doing so, he said, at least 15 thousands participants confirmed to be present in the biggest sports event in Indonesia. This meeting was held to raise communication between the the leaders of the PON contingents. "In order to coordinate the preparation of PON, so that it can run smoothly," said Hadadi.
