REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) asked the police to investigate allegations of political money or political dowry behind the implementation of simultaneous local elections.
IPW assessed the dowry money was not a political cost, but the political crime with nuanced of bribery that violate the Criminal Code (KUHP) and must be dealt with.
Presidium Chairman of IPW Neta S Pane said, to dismantle the practice of dowry money, the police need to prepare Intelkam team and Corruption Criminal Investigation of National Police.
"Hopefully, the police team can capture and process the perpetrators to justice," he said on Saturday, August 1.
According to him, the issue of the existence of the dowry money was more intense and sticking to the surface to create worry and distrust of public in the electoral process.
In fact, the various complaints from the candidates appeared because they were not able to pay the dowry money asked and make them have to resign from a political party.
Police as the moral guardians of society, he added, need to examine and oversee the simultaneous local elections in 2015 in order to be a political process that was clean, transparent and far from the practice of bribery.
If the police processed the prospective regional head involved the practice of dowry money, he added, the new culture of local elections will grow.
Mental revolution of leadership in the regions will occur and people could really get leadership who was clean (from any criminal practice), integrity and morality.
"The task of the Police in simultaneous local elections are not just a security guard, more than that the police should be able to disclose and process all violations of law behind the simultaneous local elections, including money politics practices with dowry money," he explained.
