REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The General Election Commission (KPU) said there were 15 regions that were ascertained to be re-opened the registration of local election (Pilkada)’s candidacy in the upcoming August 1 to 3 because it just has one regional head candidates.

KPU commissioners Hadar Nafis Gumay expected all parties to find a solution, including utilizing a three-day registration period that reopened by KPU.

"Not only us have to find a way out, but the other parties, please help to find a way out. Within the law provided, we just give more time to register," said Hadar.

According to him, beyond it entirely depended on the political party itself to propose the candidates. KPU also, he added, will use the three-day break to socialize it to the political parties.

"These three days we invite the political parties, search the political parties and say 'please register’, is called socialization. But if the political parties do not want to register, don’t blame us (KPU), our task just to conduct it. Like that as best of our ability," said Hadar.

He also hoped the government will find a way out so that all 15 regions have minimum of two candidate pairs, so there was no delay in the elections in 15 regions.

According to him, if the election delayed, many things will be harmed either the community, or officials concerned, to the funds spent.

"If there are other parties who are willing and cares let's find a way out. Somehow Perppu (Government Regulation in Lieu of Law) or anything please, we do not want to talk too much simply just the one point. KPU is obliged to follow," he said.

From the last data update by KPU on Wednesday night, July 29, there were 15 regions that have only one pair of candidates. In fact, there were areas that did not have a candidate. The figure increased from previously 12 regions.

Here are the 15 regions; Tidore Islands City (North Maluku), South Sorong Regency (West Papua), Arfart Mountains Regency (West Papua), after previously there were Asahan Regency (North Sumatra), Serang Regency (Banten), Tasikmalaya Regency (West Java), Surabaya City, Blitar Regency, Pacitan Regency, Purbalingga (Central Java), South Minahasa, North Minahasa, East Minahasa, Samarinda, Mataram.

While the other regions that did not have at all registrants were East Bolaang Mongondow, North Sulawesi.
