Jokowi asks TNI and Polri to avoid clashes

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG -- President Joko Widodo reminded the National Military (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) to stop the feud between institutions that have seemed to have taken root. Jokowi said, the two institutions should work in synergy to be stronger to facing the threat against national interests.

"I do not want to hear any clashes between forces or between TNI and Polri. Building the solidity of TNI-Polri," said Jokowi while giving a briefing to the 793 candidates for the military and police officers in Semarang, on Wednesday, July 29

The event was also attended by, among others, the TNI commander, Police Chief, Chief of military Staff  of the three forces, Defense Minister and Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister.

TNI and Polri, continued the President, also had to leave the suspicion and to avoid application of the corps spirit (esprit de corps) were narrow.

Jokowi assessed, a feud that often occurred between TNI and Polri will actually hinder the performance of both organizations. In fact, the challenges facing the country in the future will be even greater.

Jokowi mentioned, the challenges that the task of the military-police to eradicate mafia, ranging from import mafia, mafia-oil, to a mafia illegal fishing.

"We must act firmly without compromise deal with the mafia that harms our national interests," said Jokowi.

He also reminded the tough challenges that will be faced by Indonesia with a condition of a plural society where difference was often used as an excuse to bring up the horizontal conflict or violence acts in the name of religion, race or class.
