REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia and Singapore have agreed to establish cooperation in the field of electronic governance, which is the implementation of government activities using technology.
The agreement was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Indonesia's Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Yuddy Chrisnandi and Singapore's Communications and Information Minister Yacoob Ibrahim.
The signing of the MoU was also witnessed by President of Indonesia Joko Widodo and Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in the neighboring country on Tuesday, July 28.
"This MoU is an important milestone in the bilateral relations between the two countries. The governments of Indonesia and Singapore pay attention to the benefits and importance of cooperation between the two countries, especially with regard to bureaucratic reforms, one of which is e-governance," Chrisnandi said in a press statement received here on Tuesday.
According to the minister, the two countries have the opportunity to share knowledge to increase practical cooperation in the field of e-governance to improve the government's services.
"I believe this MoU will have a major impact on improving knowledge and perspective in building an innovation-based government that uses information technology. It will also improve governance and support the reform agenda of the bureaucracy," he affirmed.
Based on a survey conducted by the United Nations, Singapore's e-governance system is the third-best in the world. The use of e-governance has increased productivity and expedited various public service processes.
Moreover, Chrisnandi hopes that with this MoU, they can share experiences and policy issues in the development of this system.
According to President Joko Widodo, the cooperation is expected to facilitate public services for Singaporean investors.
On the occasion, Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong also expressed his happiness over building cooperation with Indonesia. As a friendly country, sharing knowledge and experience in governance, especially in the development of e-governance, is crucial and useful.
