REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The capital Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) said interest in doing business in the agricultural sector is growing.

In the period of October 2014-June 2015 BKPM received proposals for principal license growing 134.8 percent year-on-year in investment value to Rp56.74 trillion.

"The principal license proposed included for investment in livestock farming , food crop farming and plantations. The increase in value of the proposed projects indicated that investment interest in the agricultural sector is still strong," BKPM chief Franky Sibarani said in a news release issued here on Monday.

Franky said BKPM would welcome investment in the livestock farms as it would contribute to the government's program of self sufficiency in meat supply.

"We encourages investment in sectors that would contribute to self sufficiency in meat supply," he said.

He said according to BKPM's investment marketing team, there are 20 investors expressing interest in doing business in Indonesia.

Among the 20 investors, 16 planned to invest US$2.33 billion.

Five of the investors showed serious interest in investing US$378 million. They are expected to submit proposal for principal license to BKPM soon.

Others were still in the process of feasibility studies and they are also expected to submit proposal for principal license later.

BKPM would coordinate with the agriculture ministry and other related agencies to ensure that there would be restrictive regulation hampering the process of licensing, he said.

He said the agricultural sector is one of the BKPM's targets to boost investment.

Other investment targets are infrastructure especially power generating, port, maritime , tourism, industrial estate and manufacturing sectors mainly labor intensive industry, export oriented industry and industries producing import substitutes.
