REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) will form a team to conduct investigations related to commotion in Karubaga, Tolikara, Papua. Commissioner of Komnas HAM Maneger Nasution said the team will soon leave to Papua.
"We will conduct an investigation and set out to Papua, maybe tonight or tomorrow," said Maneger in Jakarta, on Monday, July 20.
Komnas HAM confirmed that the prohibition, assault and combustion in Tolikara on a par with terrorism. Komnas HAM also suspected the prohibition as gross human rights violations.
Maneger added, in this case the state must be present and investigate thoroughly and professionally. He urged the government not to let this issue become protracted.
"Is not the initiators and perpetrators are very clear," said Maneger.
Komnas HAM also urged to religious people not to be provoked. In addition, the commission asked the public to maintain tolerance and diversity as well as the Homeland. "The state must also guarantee the security, religious freedom, economic rights and repairing damaged infrastructure in Papua," said Maneger.
Previously, the attack occurred when Muslims perform Eid prayers in Tolikara. Suddenly came a group of people who were shouting and throwing stones and followed burning the building. About 70 buildings including a mosque burned in the incident.
