Beef price, govt's calculation not accurate

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The beef price in Jakarta reached Rp 120 thousand per kilogram. Responding to the increase, the Chairman of the Indonesian Cattle and Buffalo Association (APSKI) Teguh Budiana, admitted that he did not surprise.

He said the meat price was already predicted to be soaring ahead of Eid. "You see, now is the supply from feedlotter decreased, they have policy to reduce stocks, so as to maintain in order to have the stock in the third quarter," he told Republika.

He added that the butcher was also protesting because of the reduction. Teguh said, but other factors were the price was likely to rise ahead of Eid.

Teguh said the reduction was due to government calculations were not accurate. "This is a serious problem, because if it comes to government calculations are not accurate, not to cause a reduction in domestic cattle," he explained.

He urged the government should be more careful in calculating the balance of supply and demand. He also said, since four days ago traders have started to raise the price of meat to Rp 2000 per kilogram.
