REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BAKU -- The construction of a pipeline, which is the extension of Iran's 6th cross-country gas pipeline, aiming to reach Iranian gas to Iraq, started, Managing director of Iran's Gas Engineering and Development Company, Alireza Gharibi, said.
The pipeline will extend 590 kilometers and include five pressure boost stations. The project will be completed over the course of two years, Iran's Shana news agency quoted Gharibi as saying July 13.
Iranian Gostaresh Energy Pars will carry out the project in the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) method, he added.
Some 620 kilometers of the 6th cross-country gas pipeline, extending from Assalouyeh to Ahwaz in southwest of the country has already come on stream, he noted.
Testing 100 kilometers of the previously built pipeline will be completed in the next month and will be ready to transfer gas to Iraq, he said.
The Iran-Iraq gas pipeline is projected to feed two power plants near Baghdad. During the first three years this pipeline will export 4-7 million cubic meters of gas per day to Iraq. Gas exports will gradually increase to 25 million cubic meters per day over the course of five years.
