REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The government will soon build a fast train route Jakarta-Bandung. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Sofyan Djalil said the construction of the project was targeted to begin in August 2015.
"The president would like if possible in August already ground breaking," he said after attending a limited cabinet meeting at the Presidential Office, on Monday, July 13.
However, until now the government has not decided the technology of which country that will be adopted for the project. Currently, only Japan and China, each of which has been offering its technology to build a fast train from Jakarta to Bandung.
Sofyan said, to determine which party bid on will be taken, and then the government will make a beauty contest. Sofyan admitted that he was assigned by the President to immediately appoint a consultant from independent third-party countries to be a judge in the beauty contest.
The consultant will assess which countries have the most favorable offer, both in terms of technology to the budgeting. "So, starting today I will search it, I will ask the help from international institutions to appoint consultants who are credible and reputable," said Sofyan.
President Jokowi, through a spokesman, Teten Masduki, said that rail transport modes have to be reliable, efficient, and inexpensive. "Therefore we have to prioritize its development," the president said.
