REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has sent Morotai District Head Rusli Sibua to a detention center after investigating him as a suspect in corruption case in 2011.
Rusli, who was picked from a place in Jakarta, was sent to his detention cell after 7 hours grilling on Wednesday.
Rusli was picked by KPK earlier that day from a place in Kuningan after he failed twice to comply with KPK's summon for investigation, deputy chairman of KPK Indriyanto Seno Adji said.
Rusli's lawyer Achmd Rifai, hoever, said his client rejected order for his arrest and maintained he was not guilty.
Rusli was charged with bribing former Constitutional Court chairman Akil Mochtar to give him victory in an election dispute for the Morotai district leader.
In court investigation of Akil, it was disclosed that Akil received Rp2.99 billion from Rusli.
Akil has been convicted and is serving a life sentence for corruption and money laundering.
The Morotai Election Commission (KPU) decided that the election in 2011 was won by the pair of Arsad Sardan and Demianus Ice, but Rusli Sibua and Weni R Praisu disputed the KPU's decision.
Sahrin Hamid, as lawyer of Rusli, contacted Akil, who demanded a payment of Rp6 billion to reverse the KUP's decision, but Ruli agreed only to pay Rp3 billion.
Sahrin transferred the money to the account of CV Ratu Samagat, a company owned by Akil's wife.
On June 20, in 2011, the Constitutional Court announced its decision favoring the pair of Rusli and Weni cancelling KPU's decision.
