REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, HONG KONG -- As many as 17 Indonesian designers took part in the autumn and summer edition of Hong Kong Fashion Week, which began on July 6 and will be held till July 9.
Apart from members of the Association of Indonesian Designers (APPMI), the country's Ministry of Industry also presented a collection of clothes, accessories, jewelry, shoes, and leather products of four small businesses.
Indonesian Consul General in Hong Kong Chalief Akbar said that Indonesia participated in the event several times.
"The number of participants from Indonesia increased by the year," he added.
Regarding the creations and innovations of the designers, Akbar remarked, "They are good. Our products are not inferior to those of other countries. Their prices are also very competitive."
Moreover, the event is crucial for Indonesian designers and fashion-related industries to promote their products, he stated, adding that Hong Kong is a hub of potential sellers and buyers from across the world.
Last year, some 17,000 potential buyers from 71 countries attended the event.
"In a year, there are some 200 international events, 14 of which are the main and biggest ones, including Hong Kong Fashion Week," Akbar pointed out.
"So this event is, indeed, very important for Indonesian designers to promote their products," he stressed.
In addition, Chairman of the APPMI Ali Charisma said: "This event is very important for us. We have already taken part in it numerous times to promote our members' latest products. The participation tends to rise, and it is one of our sources of inspiration to continue to innovate."
He further noted that Hong Kong Fashion Week also served as a training ground for designers where they can personally meet with potential buyers to negotiate.
Hong Kong Fashion Week 2015 was attended by 1,200 participants from 20 countries.
Besides fashion shows, the event is also highlighted by a seminar and symposium on the development of the fashion industry.
