Indonesia, Vietnam to commemorate 60 years of diplomatic ties

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia and Vietnam will commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations this year and will strive to improve relations between the people of both countries, Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Mayerfas said.

"This year, Indonesia and Vietnam will commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations in an event and will work to improve mutual understanding between the people of both countries," Mayerfas stated here on Thursday.

According to the ambassador, Indonesia and Vietnam have been working to further boost ties among the people of both nations over the last three years, with one of their efforts being increasing knowledge of each other.

"The program we carried out over the last three years aimed to further increase Indonesians' knowledge of Vietnam and vice versa," he remarked.

Furthermore, they sought to forge better relations among the people of both countries through activities such as exchange of visits between communities through tourism, as well, Mayerfas noted.

Moreover, Indonesia and Vietnam will enhance cooperation in the tourism sector through numerous measures, including the establishment of cooperation between the tourism bureaus of both countries.

"We are encouraging the strengthening of cooperation between the travel sectors of Indonesia and Vietnam," Mayerfas affirmed.
