REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BELITUNG -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has asked the Capital Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) to steer investments to the Belitung Industrial Zone in Bangka-Belitung (Babel) province, following its opening in Tanjung Batu port.
"Here we have a 1,400-hectare area industrial zone, so I asked the coordinating minister for economy and BKPM to steer investments to this area," President Jokowi said, after presiding over the opening of Tanjung Batu port in Belitung on Saturday.
The president noted that many foreign investors have expressed interest in developing businesses in Indonesia, and they should be directed to do so in Babel province.
According to the president, the Tanjung Batu port is strategically situated at the Indonesian Archipelago Sea Lane (ALKI), and can be developed further to attract investors.
"Six months after this, we could see progress in this port. If it functions well, we can enlarge it again," President Jokowi remarked.
