Minister Susi says state supervision malfunctioning

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Susi Pudjiastuti mentioned that the blurring of MV Hai Fa vessel was a malfunctioning form of state supervision.

"The vessel of this size could swing easily. How the vessel with a size of a football field could run without a Sailing Approval Letter (SPB) from the Port harbor master and Operational Feasibility Letter (SLO). I saw that state supervision was not functioning,” she said in her office, Jakarta, on Thursday, June 18.

Susi deeply regretted the loss of Hai Fa which was not equipped with official documents. She said with this incident, the vessel MV Hai Fa has violated legislation provisions which were applicable in Indonesia and international. So it needed the decisive action.

The MV Hai Fa has left Indonesia and now already in China. They went without be equipped by SLO and SPB.

Therefore, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries will submit a letter of complaint to Interpol, because, they were supposed to prosecute and to pursuit when MV Hai Fa was escaping.

In addition, Susi also disappointed to supervision by the Ministry of Transportation. "Interpol should do the chase. And from Indonesia, it (the chase) was from transportation ministry and IMO (International Maritime Organization)," she said.

In addition, the Government of Indonesia has set MV Hai Fa as vessel of Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) List for proposed to the international fisheries organizations.

"Directorate General of Sea Transportation repealed and did not impose any form of documents of MV Hai Fa which were issued by the Directorate General of Sea Transportation," added Susi.

Based on information from the Head of Working Unit of Marine Resources and Fisheries Supervision (PSDKP) Ambon which obtained from the Lantamal IX Ambon, allegedly the MV Hai Fa was departing from Ambon Bay to China through North Maluku waters up to Sulawesi. And on Thursday, June 4, MV Fa Hai had reached the waters of the Philippines and is now leaning in China.
