REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) chaired a limited cabinet meeting at the presidential office here on Thursday to discuss the ongoing construction of Jatigede dam.
The government is building Jatigede dam, which is located in Jatigede sub-district, Sumedang District, West Java Province, by blocking the flow of water of Cimanuk River to provide water for irrigation and generating electricity at a hydroelectric power plant in Parakan Kondang in West Java.
Once operational, the dam is expected to irrigate rice fields in the districts of Majalengka, Indramayu, and Cirebon.
The construction of the dam will submerge a total area of 147 hectares of land mostly owned by the local villagers.
Until May 2015, of the total 147 hectares of land, the government has managed to acquire 137 hectares, and negotiations are still ongoing to acquire the remaining 10 hectares of land.
