REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Economic observers of Institute for Development of Economic and Finance (INDEF), Enny Sri Hartati assessed that with the depressed value of the rupiah, Indonesia should be able to keep stabilizing the domestic prices. Related to that, she said Indonesia could follow the example of steps of India Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

"If you want, the government could sit together with Bank Indonesia to pursue India. India has many similarities with our economic structure," said Enny to ROL, on Wednesday, June 17.

She added that India has economic strength in household consumption due to a large population such as Indonesia. In addition, she explained, like Indonesia, India was dependence on foreign too.

According to Enny, India exports only amounted to 27 percent and Indonesia by 25 percent. "So this is similar, the economic structure is also similar if it viewed from its natural resources as well," he said.

From this similarity, he said Indonesia could learn because India could sustain index of consumer confidence and business. The effort because the programs were made by Modi was quite right.

Related to this, she explained, Modi succeeded in doing political stability prior to trigger high public consumption. "If it is high, it definitely the community production will also increase. And in the end the investment could grow anyway," said Enny.

Therefore, she said, the government should try to stabilize domestic prices first. She added, India and Indonesia were both in the midst of a global slowdown, but if domestic prices stable, India's economy could remain good.
