REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM -- The Batam Management Agency of Riau Islands province is developing an application to provide a map of spatial and regional investment opportunities in free ports and free trade.

This app will be based on a geospatial information system to help investors seeking information on business opportunities in the region.

"This application is being designed for investors who need a map of Batam for information on land, spatial planning as well as locations of schools. We will launch the application this year," Head of the Regional Development and Planning Bureau of Batam Irfan T. Widyasa said here on Tuesday.

Once launched, the application can be accessed on both computers and smartphones, he added.

The early stage of the application service will be limited to a map. Later, the service will be enhanced with a geospatial information system that will display land use for investment in Batam.

"The application will be launched this year for all mobile device platforms. It will be available on Blackberry App World, iOS App Store, Google Play and Windows Phone Store," Widyasa affirmed.

He believes that the service will enable investors to look for information on land, infrastructure projects and public facilities.

"The information is already available but not in the form of a web-based map. It was not integrated either. With this service, all information will be integrated," he pointed out.

He further noted that the Batam Management Agency was now gathering some 100 databases of basic maps, project plans, road development projects, electricity networks and the availability of clean water. All secondary data will be derived from the agency.

"We are open data contributions from any party for the development of the application. Besides internal institutions, data are also collected from the Regional Planning and Development Board (Bappeda), the Industry and Trading Office (Disperindag), the Central Statistics Bureau (BPS) and other institutions," Widyasa stated.

In addition, the Batam Management Agency believes that the application will be able to promote the investment potential in the region.
