REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has asked the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) community and scholars to play their role in dealing with the nation's challenge.
Speaking at the opening of NU Scholars National Congress and Istighosah (islamic mass prayer) at the Istiqlal mosque here on Sunday, President Jokowi said the challenges in Indonesia are so many and varied.
"We have many challenges for example in drug mafia, illegal fishing, oil and gas mafia, food mafia, and many others that we are facing today, and therefore, I hope the NU scholars can play their role in building the future of the nation," Jokowi noted.
The president also called on NU to help build a peaceful and harmonious Indonesian community.
He noted that with the spirit of harmony and tolerance, a prosperous and affluent society can be formed.
