REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Former senior deputy governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Miranda Swaray Goeltom was set free on Tuesday morning after serving a jail term of three years at the women's penitentiary in Tangerang, located west of Jakarta.

"Today, Mirando Goeltom was released from the women's penitentiary in Tangerang, at around 7:30 a.m. local time," spokesman for the Law and Human Rights Ministry Akbar Hadi noted in a short text message.

Miranda was sentenced to three years' imprisonment for bribing several lawmakers to pave the way for her candidacy for the post of BI senior deputy governor.

"She has served her jail term of three years without receiving remission," Akbar stated.

Miranda was detained on June 1, 2012, and declared guilty of involvement in a bribery case on April 25, 2014.

She was found guilty of giving bribes in the form of Bank International Indonesia (BII) cheques worth Rp24 billion to several members of Commission IX of the House of Representatives for the 1999-2004 term.
