REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Investors from South Korea, China and Japan have expressed keen interest in procuring train cars for Light Rail Transit (LRT) systems in Bekasi, Bogor, Tangerang and Jakarta.
"PT Adhi Karya will call for tenders for the procurement of train cars. Only investors from the three countries have expressed interest in the project," Deputy Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) for Facilities and Infrastructure Dedy S. Priatna said in a statement released on Monday.
The government has appointed state construction company PT Adhi Karya to implement the project, which will cost Rp24 trillion. The construction of LRT systems is expected to start on August 17.
The investors may either serve as strategic investors in the procurement of train cars, or only as suppliers of train cars for the LRT systems, Priatna stated.
It will depend on the funds obtained from the rights issue of PT Adhi Karya's shares and the placement of state capital, he pointed out.
"If the funds are enough, PT Adhi Karya will be able to procure train cars on its own, while the investors will supply them," he affirmed.
Priatna added that the government is also planning to involve state-owned train manufacturer PT INKA in the procurement of train cars for the LRT systems. All these alternatives are being studied, taking the types of train cars to be used into account.
The government has projected that the LRT systems will be operational in 2018.
