REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, ISLAMABAD -- At least two persons including a member of the Punjab provincial assembly were shot dead by unknown gunmen on Sunday evening in Pakistan's eastern district of Gujranwala, local media reported.
According to the reports, the incident took place when unknown gunmen riding a car sprayed bullets at the vehicle of Rana Shamshad, a member of the provincial assembly (MPA) of eastern province Punjab.
The gunmen ambushed the vehicle of the MPA as he was coming back from his farm house in the Raja Bulahy town of Kamoke area of the district.
Both Shamshad and his son were killed on the spot after receiving multiple bullets.
Shamshad belonged to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Rescue teams and police rushed to the site and shifted the bodies to the hospital.
Police has launched a search operation in the area.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. However, police feared that it might be the act of some local criminals because the Gujranwala district is notorious for hosting a number of gangsters, extortionists, kidnappers and contract killers.
