REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The state's philosophy of Pancasila is not meant for memorization alone but for implementation in the life of the nation, Vice President Jusuf Kalla said here on Monday.

He made the statement on the occasion of the commemoration of the birth of Pancasila Day on June 1.

"The values entailed in the Panacasila to strengthen the Unitary State of the Indonesian Republic (NKRI) must be implemented in the life of the nation instead of merely being memorized," Kalla stated while dispatching the ships of the Nusantara Jaya Expedition 2015 at Tanjung Priok port on Monday.

He explained that the organization of the Nusantara Jaya Expedition 2015 was one of the attempts to hold the nation together.

This expedition involves as many as 4,000 people from several provinces across the country. They board Indonesian warship KRI-593 Banda Aceh, 86 other pioneer ships and two floating hospitals.

In Blitar, East Java, on Monday, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo noted in his speech to mark the conception of the Pancasila that the struggle to establish the ideology as the foundation of the country was important.

"Nothing can become a reality without a struggle. If we want to realize the Pancasila as the foundation of the state, we have to keep fighting," Jokowi emphasized here on Monday.

Every year, Indonesians commemorate June 1 as Pancasila Day, the day in 1945 when the nation's founding father Soekarno laid the philosophical basis for what would become the new state of Indonesia.

The establishment of the state of Indonesia does not mean that the struggle is over, but it should be undertaken with stronger commitment and efforts, Jokowi remarked.

The president then urged his countrymen to relive and carry forward Soekarno's spirit to realize an independent, sovereign and self-reliant Indonesian state.
