REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TUAL -- The Tual immigration office of Maluku will deport 31 Myamar citizens who are former crew members of the fishing firm PT Pusaka Benjina Resources (PBR) in Benjina, Aru Islands, Maluku province, an official stated.

The 31 Myanmar citizens will be deported following the repatriation of 38 Cambodians from Tual on Saturday (May 23), Head of Tual's Marine Affairs and Fisheries Resources Supervision Office (PSDKP), Asep Supriadi, noted here on Monday (25/5).

The Myanmarese will be flown from Tual to the Maluku provincial capital of Ambon, at 10 a.m. local time, on Monday. They will then be directly deported on Tuesday to their country from Pattimura International Airport aboard a Myanmarese Airlines aircraft.

On Wednesday, May 20, a joint team of the Tual Immigration, the PSDKP Station, and the Aru police evacuated 284 former crew members of PT PBR's ships. The crew members comprised 204 Myanmarese, 42 Thai citizens, and 38 Cambodians.

Supriadi revealed that the team is also preparing for the evacuation of another 667 crew members from Thailand who are still in Benjina.

A total of 42 former crew members from Thailand are now in the Tual Immigration office for deportation.

The local authorities are also accommodating 173 other former Myanmarese crew members at Tual's fishery port areas. They have joined their counterparts who have already been moved there earlier.

All former foreign crew members of PT PBR, who were evacuated from Benjina, Aru Islands, in Tual, North Maluku, were provided logistical assistance such as mats, cushions, gloves, clothing, and toiletries by the International Organization for Migration.

PT PBR has recently been in the spotlight following revelations that the fishing firm had enslaved its fishermen.
