REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NAIROBI -- Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday urged schools and universities to device ways of detecting and thwarting terror attacks in their institutions.

Kenyatta said university administrators must liaise with security chiefs and organize a programme to train students on how to respond in case of terror attacks.

"Several young people have been arrested while coming back after undergoing radicalization, while others have been apprehended on their way to join radical groups elsewhere," he said when he met chancellors of public universities in Nairobi.

He pointed out that the security threats the country is facing are not the work of outsiders but radicalized youth within Kenya.

The Kenyan leader's remarks came after increased terror threats across the country targeting schools and colleges, some of which have been closed for fear of attacks by Somali militant group, Al- Shabaab. The militants attacked Garissa University College, killing 148 on April 2.

Kenyatta also urged public universities to focus more on quality and market oriented courses relevant to Kenyan economic needs.
