REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President Jusuf Kalla inaugurated the 41st World Congress on Military Medicine organized by the International Committee of Military Medicine (ICMM) at the Nusa Dua Convention Center in Bali, on Monday (18/5).

Organized biennially, the 41st ICMM World Congress on Military Medicine in Bali encompasses sectors such as Military Medicine, Emergency Military Medicine, Healthcare, Military, Medical and Defense.

Delegates from 98 countries comprising top military officials and military doctors were present in the congress.

A transfer of ICMM leadership from Head of the Saudi Arabian Health Center Major General Ghaleb Huraib to Surgeon General of the Indonesia Defense Force Major General TNI Daniel Tjen, MD, took place before Vice President Kalla inaugurated the congress.

During his opening speech, Vice President Kalla voiced his complete support to the world congress on military medicine to discuss their role in addressing global conflicts and disasters.

"As the chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), I have a lot of experience with military doctors in addressing disasters. When a devastating tsunami hit Aceh in December 2004, military doctors from more than 50 countries came to Aceh," Kalla pointed out.
