REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TOMOHON -- Three volcanoes in North Sulawesi (Sulut) are still on alert status or level III.
"It can be said with this status that volcanic activity is still high and need to be alert," said the head of Lokon and Mahawu Volcano Observation Post, Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) in Kakaskasen, Ruskanda Farid Bina, on Thursday, May 15.
The three volcanoes are Mount Karangetang in Islands District Sitaro, Mount Lokon in Tomohon and Mount Soputan in Southeast Minahasa Regency.
Volcanic activity is still above average, according to him, Bandung PVMBG Geological Agency recommended radius of danger that must be complied by local people and climbers, such as Mount Lokon with a radius of danger as far as 2.5 kilometres from the crater, or Mount Soputan to secure as far as 6.5 kilometre radius of the crater.
"This radius of danger must be adhered to with the intent to be out of danger in case of eruption," he said.
