Indonesian senior actor, Didi Petet, passes away

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Sad news come for Indonesian arts. A senior actor, Didi Widiatmoko, known as Didi Petet passed away at the age of 58 years in Bambu Apus, South Tangerang, on Friday, May 15, morning.

"He died at 05:30 at his home," said the head of the Creative Economy Agency, Triawan Munaf on Friday, May 15.

According to Triawan who received the sad news from the family of the deceased, Didi Petet exhausted after returning from Milan dealing with Indonesian Pavilion at the World Expo Milano 2015. No doubt that his activities lately to take care of the Indonesian pavilion at the World Expo Milano (WEM) in 2015 was draining his body and his mind.

He even had to be hospitalized for two days while in Milan. He set some constraints that occur there. He was with a persistent to bring the good name of Indonesia in front of the world. He wants to show that Indonesia has a rich culture and natural potential.

Despite the absence of financial support from the government, he as Chairman of the Cooperative of Cultural Archipelago Conservationist (KPBN) kept the spirit to include Indonesia in world-class expo which held every five years.

A variety of problems ranging from lack of funds which caused the show case that the plan will be held three days finally trimmed to two days. Not to mention the protest party vendors who did not accept the reasons. So they had to cast a press release to journalists who expressed an apology for the cancellation of the show case of the Indonesian pavilion.

"I straighten the statement, it is not cancelled, just cut to two days, due to the limited funds we have. There is no government funding, just purely private donations whom concerned with the advancement of Indonesia!” he said to ROL by phone some time ago.

Besides, there are also problems related to the delivery of goods to be exhibited. It still stuck in the harbour, including the Javan rhino sculpture which is supposed to be an icon for the Indonesian pavilion. It could be presented on Sunday, May 10, while the expo opened since Friday, May 1.

WEM 2015 will still be held until 31 October. Hopefully, these activities can still run smoothly and give positive impact for the Indonesian economy in the future.
