REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDA ACEH -- The economic growth has not been fairly distributed across Sumatra Island, according to Aceh Governor Zaini Abdullah.

"It can be seen from some parts of the island where the economy is growing rapidly, but in some other parts, it is growing slowly," the Aceh governor stated during the coordinating meeting of all governors of Sumatra here on Wednesday (13/50.

Abdullah noted that although the economic growth on the island has not been evenly distributed, it has been improving every year as Sumatra Island is strategically located along the Malacca Strait.

"To be able to benefit from the ASEAN economic cooperation, the provincial governments across Sumatra Island should strengthen their position," he affirmed.

He further added that during the coordination meeting, the governors of all provinces on Sumatra Island can collaborate to enhance their role in the ASEAN economic cooperation.

"From this coordination meeting, we hope that economic connectivity and integrated development on Sumatra Island can be improved," he noted.

He stated that the two-day meeting here on May 12-13, 2015, aims to discuss numerous issues related to development on the island.

"We have nine development-related issues to be discussed during the coordination meeting," the Aceh governor said.

"The nine strategic issues are part of an ideal development agenda to support equitable economic growth across Sumatra Island," the Aceh governor remarked.
