Minister warns of environmental damages in West Java

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- Minister of Forestry and Environment Siti Nurbaya assessed the damages to environment in West Java are high. Because, she said, the most populous province attracted many investments, thus lead to environmental disaster.

Fot instance, she said, there were a lot of land conversion that caused environmental damage.

So, commitment and decisiveness of government are necessary to overcome the environmental damages in West Java.

"Environmental issues in West Java are quite heavy, so that it needs seriousness of all parties to overcome it," Siti said during a meeting with the Vice Governor of West Java Deddy Mizwar, at Gedung Sate, Bandung, on Thursday, May 7.

Siti said the disaster effected law enforcement. Each offender involved of environmental damage, she said, must be dealt with firmly. Moreover, today there are many laws that can be used against violators of the environment.
