REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Human Rights Activists (HAM) and Executive Director of SNH Advocacy Center, Sylviani Abdul Hamid was concerned with the competition to draw caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad in the United States. He considered the states of US, Texas, was negligent by allowing the race who insults the Muslims.
"In fact, the event can take place without any hindrance from the government," he said, on Thursday, May 7.
In fact, Sylvi said, drawing the Prophet was a threat to religious harmony. The competition was also contrary to the values and objectives of the UN Charter principles.
"America as a country which is known to upholding human rights should be an example of human rights. It should not create defamation of Islam through Prophet drawing competition," he said.
Drawing the Prophet Muhammad cartoon was an insult to Islam and Muslims. Because, all this time the Prophet Muhammad is the role model that is respected and held in high esteem by the people and it’s illicit to portray him visually.
As is known, the caricatures contest of the Prophet Muhammad was held in the Curtis Culwell Center, Garland, Texas, United States on Sunday, May 3 on local time.
