REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) said Indonesia will stop sending workers abroad, especially who work as housemaid (PRT).
"Indeed, we (Indonesia government) have a plan at the end of 2018 to stop the workers who work as housemaid," said JK after opening the discussion forum of Intellectual Property Rights (HKI) and the socialization of HKI Law No. 28/2014, on Wednesday, May 6.
According to him, the government did not stop the sending of Indonesian workers (TKI) to the formal field, and will continue to encourage the development of the sector. JK said the termination shipping of housemaids to abroad, at the end of 2018 is expected to coincide with Indonesia's economic growth will not increase the number of unemployed.
"But then about two-three years, if our economy is calculated grow around seven percent. Because employment is very open," said JK.
However, if the Indonesian economy is still like today, sending housemaids abroad are still needed to reduce unemployment.
The Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration has said it will stop the placement of Indonesian workers in 21 countries in the Middle East, namely Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Egypt, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, South Sudan , Syria, Tunisia, UAE, Yemen and Jordan.
