Minister will build special prisons for drug dealers

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Controlling of the drugs circulation in prison are increasingly alarming. Therefore, in the near future Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) will build a special prison for drug dealers. Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly revealed, this special prisons will be effective because it is equipped with a layered security facilities.

"It is definitely. So now the drug dealers that have a network, and also potentially have a network, we grouped all of them in certain prisons. Three or four prisons will be guarded in layers," he said in Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 6.

In addition, continued Yasonna, in that prisons which will be built, the Internet and cellular signal could not enter its place. By doing so, the convicted drug will not be able to communicate with the outside world, even though for example the convicted person has a contraband communication tools.

"Hence, later all of networks, the phone signal will be jam. I just talking with Mr. Menkominfo (Minister of Communication, Information and Technology), it will be jam. Beside it will be jam, the prisons will be still monitored intensively. We use CCTV, the door entry with finger print detectors, "he said.

However, Yasonna cannot ensure the location plan to build this special prison. "We're looking the suitable place now. And of course there will be an extra charge for CCTV and X-ray drugs security," he explained.

The PDIP politician also did not dismiss it; collaboration between prison guards and occupants often occurred. Therefore, he stated, anyone who teamed up to smooth the drug trafficking, must be punish.

"So it is not enough if just with punishing officials," he said.

Yasonna also ensures that, Kemenkumham will select the candidate of special guards and the prison guards. Because, in addition to increased the surveillance, guards also must be ascertained could not be tempted by money blinkers that bribed by drug dealers.

"They should be with good track record. But still, since this involves big money circulation, we will continue to monitor through the system, CCTV, cameras, and people that entering the prisons will be frisked," he said.
