REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PONTIANAK -- The West Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), in cooperation with the IAR Indonesia Foundation and the Simpang Dua Police, has rescued three orangutans kept as pets by the local inhabitants.
"The rescue effort was carried out by a joint team on Wednesday (April 29) at the home of a local resident in Kampar Sebomban village, Simpang Dua sub-district, Ketapang District," Azmardi Kamil , a forest ranger from West Kalimantan, stated here, Thursday.
The three orangutans will be rehabilitated by the IAR Foundation in Ketapang. The owner agreed to hand over the endangered animals to the agency after being persuaded by the team.
Last week, the agency also rescued an orangutan from a villager in Jeruju Kanan, Batu Ampar sub-district, Kubu Raya District.
"The female orangutan called Merry is about six years old. Now, Merry is in the rehabilitation center run by the IAR Foundation in Ketapang," he added.
