President Jokowi leaves for Malaysia to attend ASEAN summit

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), accompanied by the First Lady Mme Iriana Joko Widodo and entourage, left Halim Perdanakusumah Airport for Malaysia here Sunday noon to attend the ASEAN Summit in the neighboring country.

The President and party left the airport aboard of the Presidential airplane at 2.40 p.m. Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB) and are scheduled to arrive in Kuala Lumpur at 5.0 p.m local time.

Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto, Minister for State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform Yuddy Chrisnandi and Jakarta Deputy Governor Djarot Syaiful Hidayat were among those who accompanied the President.

President Jokowi is scheduled to join the arrival procession and gala dinner together with ASEAN heads of state and other ASEAN delegates at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) at 8.0 p.m local time.

The ASEAN 26th Summit will be opened at the KLCC on Monday.

The 26th Summit of ASEAN will be held in two sessions, namely the plenary session in Kuala Lumpur and the retreat session in Langkawi, Kedah.

On the sidelines of the summit, heads of state/government of ASEAN will meet with the representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ABAC), ASEAN Youth Representatives and Civil Society Organizations (CSO) representatives.

Besides, the heads of state/government are also invited to attend the 12th ASEAN Leadership Forum in Kuala Lumpur.

Apart from a series of the 26th ASEAN Summit, the heads of state/government of the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-the Philippines-East Asian Growth Triangle (BIMP-EAGA) and Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) will also meet in Langkawi on April 28, 2015.
