VP to open Environment Week 2015

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Ministry of Environment and Forestry will observe the 19th Environment Week from June 18 to 21, 2015, ministerial secretary of environment and forestry Rasio Ridho Sani said here Tuesday (21/4).

"Since March, we have been organizing programs such as Earth Day and Water Day as the run-up to Environment Week," he added.

The government and administration institutions, national, multinational, and state-owned enterprises, environment organizations as well as activists will participate in Environment Week 2015.

The launch of Indonesia's Environment Week will coincide with Environment Day 2015 and the theme of this year's event is Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet Consume with Care.

Vice-President Jusuf Kalla is likely to officially open Environment Week 2015.

Events to mark the occasion will include drawing and coloring competitions for 500 children in three categories.

Programs for communities will include an eco-driving workshop and a rally that will be attended by 100 people, as well as Green Music contest involving 50 traditional music groups.

Seminars and workshops on eight themes by experts and scientists as well as fun walk and fun bike by 2,000 people will also be held during Environment Week 2015.

Deputy for the Communication and Community Empowerment of the Ministry Ilyas Asaad remarked that one of the interesting programs is Little Engineering competition.

"Participants will be given garbage and asked to make something useful and creative out of it," he said, adding that observing the week is a way to remind people of the importance of conserving and maintaining the environment.
