REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice-President M Jusuf Kalla received some ambassadors of the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at Merdeka Palace here Wednesday (15/4).
The Indonesian Government urges Islamic nations to maintain unity, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno LP Marsudi said after accompanying the head of state in the meeting.
"Islam is a religion of peace. The focus of the meeting has been unity and peace among Muslims," the minister noted.
The ambassadors see Indonesia as an example of a tolerant Muslim majority country, she stated.
"We have also urged the countries' representatives to hold a get-together meeting during the Asia-Africa Conference (AAC)," the minister remarked.
The Indonesian Government will hold the Asian-African Summit 2015 to mark the 60th anniversary of the Asia-Africa Conference (AAC) and the 10th anniversary of the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership in Jakarta and Bandung, West Java, from April 19 to 24, 2015.
Some 57 delegations, including those led by heads of state/government, from Asian and African nations have confirmed their attendance at the AAC celebration.
Events marking the AAC will include a senior officials' meeting on April 19, a ministerial-level meeting on April 20, the Asian-African Business Summit on April 21, and the Asian-African Summit in Jakarta on April 22 and 23.
On April 24, heads of state attending the AAC are expected to participate in the Historical Walk event in Bandung.
