REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BRUSSELS -- The computer-hacking network, Anonymous, has claimed it has uncovered the identity of the person behind recent cyber attacks against the Belgian and French media.

According to Anonymous, the hacker has connections with the radical Islamic State.

In a video posted on the internet on Tuesday, the group says that "we have at last found the perpetrator of these crimes."

According to the Belgian branch of Anonymous, the hacker is an adolescent who is addicted to video games, lives in Belgium and uses tools that are openly available.

"This young man is not working as a real hacker, he simply made use of what he could find on the internet. We have uncovered his Facebook profile, and have passed data on to the Federal Computer Crime Unit," the group said.

On Sunday evening, the Rossel media group, which owns many key Belgian titles, such as Le Soir, Sudpresse was hit by a cyber attack, temporarily shutting-down its online operations. IPM media, which owns La Libre Belgique and La Derni're Heure was similarly hit.

The previous week, the global French television channel, TV5MONDE was similarly disrupted.

Both Rossel and IPM filed complaints with the Federal Computer Crime Unit (FCCU), against unknown persons.

The Federal Computer Crime Unit have so far refused to comment on developments.

According to a statement on the website of Le Soir, the company is upgrading its cyber security in order to prevent any further attacks.
