REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- The Surabaya chapter of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) has expressed support for incumbent PDIP chief Megawati Soekarnoputri's bid for re-election at the party congress scheduled to take place in the resort island of Bali on April 9.
"The issue of general chief has been resolved and we continue to support Madame Megawati Soekarnoputri," Chief of the PDIP Chapter in Surabaya Wisnu Sakti Buana said here on Sunday.
Asked about a call for the party to nominate PDIP cadre Puan Maharani for the party deputy chief, Wisnu said it was up to the elect general chief to decide.
The PDIP branch in Surabaya is set to send 2,000 cadres to attend the Bali congress.
Deputy Chairman of the Surabaya chapter of the PDIP Sukadar said last Thursday the congress would elect the general chief and discuss the simultaneous regional head elections.
"We have prepared the cadres to get two significant proposals from the city executive board endorsed at the congress. The first proposal is to clear that we have, by acclamation, agreed to nominate (incumbent PDIP chief) Madame Megawati for another term," he noted.
"Madame Megawati is the only candidate we will propose and her re-nomination is not negotiable," Sukadar remarked.
