REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Two short movies promoting tourism in Indonesia won two awards in the categories of history and culture and sports at the 11th International Tourism Film Festival "On the East Coast of Europe" in Bulgaria.
"We are so proud. This achievement is like a double-edged sword. It shows that we succeeded in promoting tourism along the cultural and historical theme, and also exposed the beauty of the underwater world of Indonesia," Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya said here on Saturday.
The two short movies titled "Wonderful Indonesia: History and Culture" and "Wonderful Indonesia: Diving" were produced by the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism.
Yahya also stated that he was proud of the accomplishment of the moviemakers for managing to create the two award-winning promotional films with their profound themes, stories, and pictures.
The awards were announced on Friday, April 3, night at the Cathedral Rozhdeshtvo Bogorodichno Hall, Veliko Tornovo, Bulgaria.
According to Second Secretary of Socio-Cultural, Protocol and Consular Affairs of the Indonesian Embassy, Sofia Dina Martina, the awards were handed over by the chairman of the jury, Dr. Marin Damianov, and juror Antoni Ivanov Tsonev to Indonesian Ambassador Bunyan Saptomo.
Moreover, Damianov was impressed by the film on history and culture that depicted the diversity of Indonesian culture and religion.
In addition, Tsonev was awed by the underwater paradise of coral reefs, colorful fish and biodiversity in several diving spots in Indonesia.
As many as 90 movies from 23 countries, including Bulgaria, Serbia, Brazil, Portugal, Morocco, Thailand, Cyprus, Macedonia, Switzerland, Croatia, India, Indonesia, Egypt, Greece, Poland, Peru, Faroe Islands, Czech Republic, Austria, Malta, France, Finland, and Germany, participated in the tourism film festival.
The movies were judged in five categories, namely nature and ecotourism, history and culture, sport and adventure, faith and tradition, and corporate tourism film/spot.
Indonesia participated in the festival with four movies. Aside from the two winning films, the other two movies were "Feeling is Believing" in the corporate tourism film/spot category and "Nature and Ecotourism" for the nature and ecotourism category.
The International Tourism Film Festival of Bulgaria "On the East Coast of Europe" is a prestigious forum where, through the works of talented filmmakers, appealing tourist destinations of different countries can be promoted before Bulgarian viewers and a selected international audience.
The festival was held by the administration of Veliko Tornovo city, in cooperation with consulting and communication agencies, tour operators, and travel agents of Bulgaria.
