Indonesia to host conference on green investment

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia is set to host an international conference in Jakarta on April 27 and 28 as part of efforts to attract investment in green economy, which will ensure a sustainable future in the country.

The conference themed "Tropical Landscape Summit: A Global Investment Opportunity" is expected to bring together some 500 chief executive officers (CEOs) of various national and international companies, Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Franky Sibarani said in a press statement released on Tuesday.

"The chance to host the international conference towards green economy is very strategic for Indonesia to play a key role in sustainable development," he remarked.

The BKPM will host the two-day event in collaboration with the Office of the Presidential Staff and the United Nations Office for REDD+ Coordination (UNORCID).

The event will feature foreign and domestic speakers, including ministers in charge of tropical landscape development such as the Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said, Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman, Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro, and Industry Minister Saleh Husin.

The foreign speakers will comprise Helen Clark of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and global CEOs.

"We invite various parties that support green investment to attend the event and be part of this important occasion," he stated.

Moreover, Sibarani expressed hope that green investment would increase in the years to come, along with the increasing investment target, which is set at 14 percent to Rp519.5 trillion.
