More bodies retrieved from under piles of Sukabumi landslides

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SUKABUMI -- Rescue workers found more bodies on Sunday from under piles of earth after Saturday's landslides in the regency of Sukabumi, West Java.

Until Sunday 10 bodies had been recovered leaving two more known victims yet missing in the landslides that hit the village of Cimerak, Sikabumi, Red Cross official Asep HAS said here on Sunday (9/3).

The two still missing victims were identified as Deni (40) and Aldi (12)buried.

Asep, however, said the bodies of the two victims had been seen but they could not lifted immediately from under ruins of houses and earth.

The 10 bodies found are identified as those of Aisyah, Lilis, Sopardi, Maya and Dede from the village of Cimerak, Elsa and Egi from the nearby village of Pasiripis; Nyai Jamilah and Lisdawati from the village of Sukanagara, and Abdul Muti of the Cijurey village.

Asep said he was confident all death victims would be found and evacuated on Sunday.

District military chief Lt. Col. Syaripudin said thousands of rescue workers with heavy equipment are still in the location to speed up the process of evacuation.

The landslides , followed heavy rain, left 10 houses in ruins.
